LV Confirmation Service 2025

LV Mark Confirmation with Faith, Reflection and Adventure

Throughout this term, a group of 25 girls from LV have been preparing for Confirmation with weekly lessons led by Father Jonathan, exploring the depths of the Christian faith and its practices. The course reached its pinnacle during an unforgettable residential trip to the Forest of Dean, where the girls had the opportunity to bond and immerse themselves in both spiritual reflection and outdoor adventure. Throughout the trip, they participated in a wide variety of exciting activities, including mountain biking through the forest trails, tunnelling through the earth, and conquering the high ropes course, all while enjoying the fresh air and camaraderie of their peers.

Evenings were dedicated to deepening their understanding of Christianity, with the group engaging in thoughtful discussions and taking part in inspiring acts of worship. The residential culminated in a trip to Gloucester Cathedral, where Canon Craig Huxley-Jones, the Precentor, led an enlightening session on the Eucharist, connecting the girls more deeply to their faith.

For 18 of the candidates, the residential seamlessly transitioned into the Church of England Confirmation service held on Saturday morning. The service, led with warmth and wisdom by the Rt Revd Dr Andrew Rumsey, Bishop of Ramsbury, was a profound and celebratory occasion, made even more beautiful by the chamber choir’s moving and angelic harmonies.

The sun shone brightly on the day, adding to the joyous atmosphere, as the girls and their families gathered in celebration of this significant spiritual milestone.

Following the service, everyone returned to school for a delightful reception, reflecting on the journey of faith they had all undertaken together.

The remaining seven girls will be confirmed at the Roman Catholic service at Downside Abbey on the 2nd of May.
