Last Sunday, on the hottest day of the year so far, almost 200 pupils and staff of St Mary’s Calne gathered at Bowood House and Gardens to celebrate our 150th Anniversary, with a whole school picnic and walk through its beautiful grounds. The special picnic event was inspired by the tradition of picnics that took place regularly in the past, often on Ascension Day.
Everyone enjoyed a delicious picnic, kindly provided by Mrs Thomas and her team, as well as frisbee, french cricket and other games in the sunshine.
The day was rounded off with a moving Service led by Father Jonathan, who reminded us to reflect on the natural beauty surrounding us and to take comfort in the support of friends and colleagues.
Our enormous thanks go to the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne who so kindly gave us permission to stage the event within the grounds of Bowood.
