On Friday 17th May, St Mary’s hosted its first ever 'Strictly Calne Dancing' event. The St Mary's Big Band, featuring musicians from MIV to UVI, provided the live music; entertaining the crowd with jazz, latin, and swing standards while each Company presented carefully choreographed dances in the two competitive categories - Quartet and 'Own Choice' Group Dance.

The Quartet category kicked the night off with each Company presenting a group dance with four dancers accompanied by the Big Band.

Each Company then performed an 'Own Choice' Group Dance, where we heard a variety of songs, from Beyoncé to an original composition from Osmund about 'all thing’s orange'. In these group numbers, which featured six or more dancers, there were more points awarded for the inclusion of more year groups which resulted in some thrilling dance moves from the LIV up to the LVI.

The panel of discerning judges - Mrs Lord, Mr Morris, Miss Davies, and Miss Wright - delivered comments and feedback after each Company’s performance.

After Moberly's Group Dance the audience were certain of a win but, ultimately, it was Poore who seized the trophy and wowed the judges with their dazzling moves to Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk.

Congratulations to all involved! It was a hugely successful evening, leaving the audience thrilled and in awe of the talent on display.

We look forward to another similar event next year and our advice to you all is 'Keep Dancing!'
