BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS

We are regularly reminded of the exceptional and life-changing quality of the education that girls become immersed in at St Mary’s. When our alumnae and parents tell us what they cherish about the school, it’s often the experience of transformation that is powerfully articulated. The sense of being encouraged to explore new ideas, develop talents and make the most of all that’s on offer, ripples way beyond the years spent at Calne. When our students come here, they begin an exciting journey of self-discovery; one that balances achievement with personal growth and equips them to thrive wherever life takes them.

St Mary’s girls learn to value excellence and aspiration. They are encouraged to achieve their best within a community that is warm, open, innovative and full of opportunity. In recent years, we have been able to extend the benefits of a St Mary’s education to an increasing number of pupils thanks to the Calne Foundation Trust’s Bursary programme.  Our updated bursary policy can be found here.

Discover how the generosity of our supporters transforms lives - read more about how receiving a bursary has influenced and shaped the lives of former recipients.

Our ongoing ambition is to build a fund of 12 million to ensure that the Calne Foundation Trust Bursary programme is financially stable for the long term.

In 2023, St Mary’s celebrated its 150th anniversary - and in this special year ran an ambitious and genuinely transformational bursary appeal which embodies the school’s aims and values - the Chrysalis Campaign - aimed at changing lives for the better, opening doors to opportunities that never seemed possible and creating brighter futures for many more girls at St Mary’s.To find out more about Transformational Bursaries, please click here.

The Calne Foundation Trust Bursary Programme overview:

The Bursary Fund

The Calne Foundation Trust Bursary Fund has benefitted enormously from the generous gifts from the Old Girls of their own charitable fund and the Matthews Bursary Fund. Together these boosted the Bursary Fund of the Foundation by approximately £175,000. In addition, the funds received for Transformational Bursaries as a result of the Chrysalis Campaign in 2023, our 150th celebratory year, are included in this fund.

We continue to work on building up the capital fund for bursaries which in time will allow us to fund means-tested bursaries out of income.

Music Awards

Within the Bursary Fund, there is a Music sub-fund. This fund has been set up to support girls at St Mary's who show exceptional musical talent and contribute towards their music lessons and music studies. This fund was launched in November 2016 at the Sir David Willcocks Memorial Concert.

Bursary Syndicates

Each year we greatly welcome the support of groups of volunteers able to co-ordinate their year or Group collectively to raise funds at all levels towards a full or part-bursary. We would love to hear from any alumna or parent who would like to co-ordinate a campaign for their year group. We greatly appreciate the generosity of leaving parents many of whom use this as an opportunity to give back. If you are interested in organising a bursary syndicate, please contact Mrs Jenny Rawlinson, Director of External Relations.
