The climbing wall at St Mary’s Calne Sports Club was made possible through the generous support of parents from St Mary’s Calne and St Margaret’s Preparatory School, together with grant funding.
Supplied and installed by specialist manufacturer Entre-Prises UK, the wall offers approximately 110 square metres of varied climbing surface. Vertical sections, overhangs, grooves and ribs provide an engaging three-dimensional challenge for climbers with different levels of experience.
The facility includes a high-level belay ledge, an inset crack feature and automatic descenders. These allow climbers to develop a broad range of techniques, including abseiling, jamming and laybacking, while also supporting top-rope instruction for beginners. Its routes range from introductory climbs to demanding challenges for advanced climbers.
The wall has become a valuable facility for pupils at both St Mary’s and St Margaret’s, as well as members of the wider community. It supports physical fitness, confidence, resilience, problem-solving and teamwork, while giving climbers opportunities to develop their skills in a safe and challenging environment.
