OUR EXCITING NEW CLIMBING WALL

We are delighted to report that, thanks to the generous support of parents from both St Mary’s and St Margaret’s Schools, as well as grant funding, a new climbing wall has been installed within St Mary’s Calne Sports Club.

Supplied and fitted by Entre-Prises (UK), the leading manufacturer of climbing wall innovation and official supplier for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, the wall provides around 110 square metres of high-quality climbing. A combination of vertical walls, overhanging faces, grooves and ribs are all incorporated to provide a challenging and varied three-dimensional climbing surface designed to appeal to climbers across a breadth of abilities. A high-level belay ledge, inset crack feature and Trublue automatic descenders make it possible to practise abseiling, jamming and laybacking skills, as well as offering the ability to provide top-roped instruction to novice climbers.

The wall is suitable for both adults and children aged from 4 years and includes a wide variety of routes to explore, ranging from grade F4a (beginner climbers) to grade F7c+ (advanced climbers).

As a new medal sport in the Olympic Games, grass root climbing is likely to increase significantly and our ambition is to become a recognised climbing centre set in the heart of Wiltshire. The climbing wall will benefit pupils of both St Mary's Calne and St Margaret's Prep as well as the local community. St Mary’s Calne Sports Club will be forging links with local indoor climbing associations as well as local schools to ensure a wide and varied provision for all.

We are deeply indebted to those who supported the funding of this project and look forward to spotting the next Shauna Coxsey training on the wall!
