Our vision for the Early Years' Courtyard was to transform the internal courtyard at St Margaret’s Prep into a bright, fun and lively outdoor space to inspire exploration, stimulate pupils’ imagination and encourage harmonious play within a happy, exciting and safe environment.
The first five years of a child’s life are no doubt the most important with regards to neural development. They are the formative years where we see children learn at an incredible pace. At this age, children pick up language extremely quickly and absorb the world around them. They are exceptional learners whose brain development, combined with the right opportunities, environment and positive relationships, allow them to thrive. The Early Years pave the way for positive learning experiences and attitudes, contribute to creating lifelong learners and lay the foundations for success in the future.
The newly renovated courtyard at the heart of the school has been meticulously designed to ignite imagination and creativity. From a multi-layered water table with tubes and tunnels, a sand pit with buckets and pullies for measuring and loading, interactive whiteboard tables, a stage for performance and a treehouse and ‘den’: this space is filled with opportunities for multisensory play, role play and exploration - all key elements of The Early Years’ and Foundation Stage Curriculum.
The opening of the Courtyard coincides with St Margaret’s Prep welcoming 2+ year olds to the newly named and refurbished ‘Bluebird Nursery’. This space will undoubtedly add even more to the already well-established Early Years’ Department at St Margaret’s Prep and provide the very best start to our youngest learners’ educational journey.
